Public lecture on safeguarding late soviet modernist architecture

On September 24, 2019, with the initiative of the Georgian National Committee of the Blue Shield at Tbilisi Chess Palace and Alpine club was organized a one-day seminar “Preserving Modernist Architectural heritage and the Importance of it’s Adaptation based on the Example of Best Practices”.

The seminar was led by Riin Alatalu, an Estonian cultural heritage preservation expert and aimed at capacity rising of civil service specialists working on urban and architectural heritage management.

Up to 10 participants were introduced to the technical characteristics of Soviet modernist architectural heritage, to it’s importance and means of safeguarding, to some of the endangered buildings and successful examples of their preservation from Estonia and other countries. Invited expert also spoke about sustainable use and reuse of this type of architecture.
